Our Mission Statement
The mission of the Soille San Diego Hebrew Day School is to imbue each student with…
- a love of learning,
- a life-long appreciation for the value of Torah study and its applicability to all life choices, and
- greater understanding and respect of self and others.
This mission is pursued in a school climate which is nurturing and caring, and which emphasizes the importance of hard work in the pursuit of excellence. Children are provided with a vision of Jewish living which affirms a commitment to the continuity of our distinct way of life, a love for Israel, and a sense of responsibility to contribute to the betterment of our world, both as Americans & Jews. |
Every Child Deserves a Jewish Day School Education...
The Soille San Diego Hebrew Day School is meeting our obligation to our children for generations to come. Soille San Diego Hebrew Day is a fully independent school, not linked to any particular synagogue. Therefore, while an Orthodox school, Soille Hebrew Day's students come from families reflective of the full diversity of San Diego's Jewish community. In fact, Soille Hebrew Day is called "the Orthodox day school designed for more than just Orthodox kids."
Why Choose Soille as Your Choice for a Jewish Day School?
"I was most impressed with the school's ability to provide for such a wide spectrum within your Jewish community. I know of no other Jewish day school which has been able to bridge the chasms in ideology which I saw at [Soille Hebrew Day]. I feel honored to have had the pleasure of seeing something which offers us so clear a vision for the future of the Jewish people. "
- Steven Bogad, former Headmaster, Valley Beth Shalom Day School and currently the Head of Columbus Jewish Day School
"Hebrew Day School has done a wonderful job in focusing on excellence in both secular and Judaic education. The results have been significant - the development of students who are responsible citizens and who are of good character and high morals."
- Governor Pete Wilson , Sacremento, CA, June 2, 1994
The Best Characteristics of Soille San Diego Hebrew Day School...
Inclusive
Soille Hebrew Day prides itself on being an inclusive, broad based community of families, sharing an educational vision for its children. The totality of Jewish living is conveyed as enrichment and as a means toward living a better life.
Caring
Rabbi Simcha Weiser, Headmaster since 1981, adds his own special brand of caring and outreach commitment to the school. He encourages students to take risks in a secure, intellectually stimulating setting. His eyes light up as he states his vision of teaching:
"As teachers, we are responsible to make learning visibly joyous, to celebrate personal growth of oneself and of others, and to work collectively to sustain the highest aspiration for every one of our students."
Academic Excellence
Soille Hebrew Day has earned highest accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, the California Association of Independent Schools, and Torah Umesorah-the National Society for Hebrew Day Schools. In addition, in 1994, it was honored with our nation's most distinguished award, the Blue Ribbon School of Excellence designation from the U.S. Department of Education.
Pioneer
The pioneer of Jewish day school education in San Diego County, Soille Hebrew Day has been teaching children since 1963. Educating youth from a wide variety of Jewish affiliations from all over San Diego, its mission is:
To imbue each student with a love of learning, a life-long appreciation of Torah and its applicability to all life choices, and a greater understanding and respect of self and others .
Student Achievement
Currently, over 300 students; grades pre-school through grade eight attend Soille Hebrew Day and engage in an enriched dual curriculum: half the day consists of Judaic education while the other half is devoted to secular studies. To this end, Soille Hebrew Day employs a dual faculty consisting of Rabbis and Hebrew language teachers as well as highly trained secular studies educators. Experience and test scores show that each component of this curriculum enhances, rather than diffuses, the overall quality of the school's academic program. Student achievement in every area is outstanding because of the diversity, richness, and comprehensiveness of our curriculum.
