Social Studies

Middle School Social Studies

The exploration of history and how societies have shaped the present-day fosters a rich and rigorous curriculum in the social studies department. The goal in each grade is to teach students how to regard history thoughtfully and reflectively by interacting with a variety of perspectives within each class. They are asked to contemplate how history has changed over time and reflect on the relationship between past and present events through the lens of ancient societies, modern world culture, United States history, social and cultural systems in geography, philosophy and the arts. Our historians learn how to read, write, analyze and formulate a basis of opinion in both written and oral mediums.

Discovery Education Social Studies Techbook is a flexible core-curricular resource utilized by Hebrew Day, that uses an inquiry-based approach to enhance history, geography, civics and government courses while improving literacy, critical thinking and citizenship skills.
